I'm finally getting things sorted out here after my autumn stay in Paris.
Did Judith ever send a price for a copy of the madrigal thesis to the
Stanford Music Library? If she did it may be that the order got lost in
a massive mix up by the main library's computer (IBM) acquisition system
last fall. Apparently msny music department orders were lost. So if you
have heard nothing about an order, please send me the cost info and I will
relay it to the library.

Do you think there will be any hope of DEC contributing to the future of
music printing? Do they have any new graphics systems they would like to
try out on me? There is increasing pressure on me not to work on the SAIL
system. As of now they insist on being paid by every authorized user. I
may get some university support but I am told there is no budget for this
kind of thing at present. There is a distinct possibility that my students
and myself will have to pay out of our own pockets for continued use of
the system. What I really need is stand-alone system that could then serve
the whole music department. There don't seem to be any foundations around
who are interested in funding this kind of thing.

In Paris I got most of my system running on a PDP11/40 with VT40 (is that
the number?) display. I ended up with about 140 overlay subroutines since
I could only use about 48K bytes of memory at any one time. This involved
many "architectural" problems in my programs but as I learned the mysteries
of RT11 I think I solved them all. However for a really efficient program
it would be vastly simpler to work on a newer type system where program
size is not such a problem. Is DEC soon bringing out a small system that
will have lots of memory and do very good graphics? I certainly would
appreciate any help I could get.
